What can I bring home when I travel abroad?
Items that are commonly restricted include alcohol and tobacco products, food and plant products, fish and wildlife products, medicines and narcotics, firearms and ammunitions, ceramics and antiques. For more information, consult the U.S. Custom Service's online brochure.
Other organizations offer detailed publications on specific classes of restricted products. The U.S. Department of Agriculture provides traveler's tips on bringing food, plant and animal products into the United States. The World Wildlife Fund offers Buyer Beware!, a pamphlet providing information on endangered wildlife and guidelines restricting wildlife and wildlife product imports into the United States. And the Food and Drug Administration's Office of Regulatory Affairs Imports provides information related to foods, drugs, cosmetics, medical devices and radiation emitting devices subject to FDA's import regulations.
