Know the VP Candidates
Democratic Presidential nominee Barack Obama on August 23, 2008, announced Sen. Joe Biden, D-Dela., as his running mate. Biden, who is 65 years old, is expected to bolster the Democratic ticket with his 35 years of Senatorial experience and expertise in foreign policy. Republican Presidential nominee John McCain on August 29, 2008, announced Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin as his running mate. The nomination of Palin, who is 44 and has served as governor since 2006, was seen as an unexpected choice for the Republican ticket. She is the first woman to be nominated for vice president as a Republican and the second woman to run for vice president on a major party ticket.
