Which U.S. city had the most murders in 2000?
In the first six months of 2000, New York City had the highest murder rate in the country, with 344 killings. Chicago had 264, Los Angeles had 247 and Detroit had 205. Overall, violent crime decreased by 0.3 percent in the United States when compared to the same time period in 1999.
