America's Safest Cities
Comparing violent crime rates in 397 U.S. cities, CQ Press found that Ramapo, N.Y., topped the 2008 list of America's Safest Cities, with a crime rate that is 89.18% below the national average. Mission Viejo, Calif., was No. 2 on the list, followed by O'Fallon, Mo., and Newton, Mass. The annual report ranks the cities in six different crime areas: murder, rape, burglary, robbery, aggravated assault and motor vehicle theft.
