The following government reports were selected by GovSpot.com editors as meaningful or noteworthy. Look for new selections throughout the month:

Financial Aid
The Department of Education released this report that explains federal financial assistance for college. The Student Guide 2008-2009 includes descriptions of the loans and grants that are available and instructions on applying. The report is also available in Spanish and in PDF format.

Children's Well-Being
The Forum on Child and Family Statistics releases an annual report on the well-being of America's children. In 2007, the study compared young people across 38 indicators, including family, economic, health, safety, education and behavior. Results were mixed, showing that on the positive side, there were more children living with at least one working parent, while on the other hand, the unmarried birth rate increased.

Election Reform
In April of 2007, the National Commission on Election Reform released this study, which looks at the effects of moving presidential preference primaries earlier in the election cycle. Twenty-seven states will hold their primary/caucus on February 5, 2008, so that the traditional "Super Tuesday" of March will be moved to February.

International Comparisons
Did you ever wonder how the education system in our country stacks up against the other G-8 nations? This study from the National Center for Education Statistics shows how the United States compares to Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the Russian Federation and the United Kingdom in terms of indicators in five subjects: population and student enrollment; academic performance; context for learning; expenditure for education; and education returns or educational attainment and income.
