Alternative Landfill Covers
The Environmental Protection Agency created the Alternative Cover Assessment Program (ACAP) in 1997 to compare traditional, expensive landfill covers with some alternatives. For six years, researchers studied when and how much water passed through the test covers. Results found that the alternative covers performed as well or better than the traditional covers, saving hundreds of millions of dollars at the experiment sites.
