Federal Emergency Management Agency
The Federal Emergency Management Agency was established in 1979 to help victims of disasters. Once the president has declared a federal disaster area, victims living there can apply for federal aid administered by FEMA. The FEMA site provides information about ongoing disaster relief efforts. The agency also helps people prepare for potential emergency situations with fact sheets and advice. See the Mitigation section to learn how to strengthen your property against future hurricanes, floods or earthquakes.
